1. A picture of the children at the
front gate of Can Tho Army Airfield. If they had work permits, they would gather outside the gate and beg,
fight and crawl over each other to gain a daily work detail to police areas, cut grass and
etc. for very little money and food.

2. Another picture of the
children at the front gate.
The type of scene that still wrenches my heart, makes me angry that we could not do
more for them, and brings tears to my eyes when I remember. And Yes, the older street-wise
children could slit your pocket with a razor, so that the change
would fall on the ground, and the group would grab for it and run. And yes they were
masters at slitting a watch band to steal your watch, and you would never feel it.
But that was what they had to do in order to survive.

19. Cow Boy, This little fellow had been bullied and his toys taken by older, bigger kids. I found a small, green plastic cow on the
deuce-and-a- half and gave it to him. It was small enough for him to hide in his clenched hand and he
recognized it as a
cow (or maybe a water buffalo) He grinned and ran off, MERRY CHRISTMAS kid!.
